Responsibilities:
Manage a design and manufacturing staff focused on delivering innovative solutions to customers in a timely and cost-effective manner
Implement effective pricing strategies to obtain business that is a good fit for Design Development that will lead to lucrative business for Phillips production facilities
Assume appropriate risks when quoting new business and interface with facility representatives, sales, and finance to creatively capture large and/or multi-facility programs
Continuously enhance systems and processes to ensure programs transition through the facility in an efficient manner and that internal and external customer needs are exceeded
Effectively communicate Design Development and Phillips Plastics value proposition to internal and external customers, suppliers, and the business community
Create and nurture long-term internal and external customer relationships and establish effective working relationships with new customers
Provide technical as well as business direction to the Design Development team to attain facility as well as corporate objectives
Provide flow through customer and program visibility to peer leaders to proactively develop future manufacturing plans as well as staffing and resource needs that address customer expectations
Support customer visits, programs, and audits
Implement staff-to-strength and cross-training initiatives to ensure strong morale and retention and to provide appropriate challenges to a talented, diverse, and unique creative team
Develop, mentor, and align people so they can assume additional responsibilities
Develop and implement manufacturing systems such as 5S and equipment strategies to best serve customer and market injection molding and processing needs
Work closely with the sales force to resolve customer issues in a timely and effective manner
Issue, monitor, and update annual business plans and forecasts
Respond to and implement appropriate changes based upon feedback from the Customer Service Surveys
Work in conjunction with Technology Center resources to support and develop leading edge technologies
Lead, contribute to, and support management and corporate initiatives
Promote and support community involvement
Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in Engineering or an equivalent mix of education and professional/technical experience including business skills and savvy
Minimum seven (7) years’ professional experience
Significant experience leading an engineering development team, and in managing and leading people
Personal and interpersonal skills, including, but not limited to, caring about others, integrity and trust, listening, humor, ethics and values
Strong ability to think outside of the box and to assist others in doing so
Strong understanding of the product development process
Strong ability to establish and implement systems and processes
