Aradigm Corporation is a specialty pharmaceutical company focused on the development and commercialization of a portfolio of drugs based on the company’s AERx® inhalation device for the treatment of severe respiratory diseases. Recently, the company decided to move from its breakthrough first generation AERx device to a second-generation delivery device, the AERx Essence™ – an all-mechanical device that would be smaller, lighter, and lower in cost than its bulky electrically operated predecessor while retaining most of the performance and features of the original design. But achieving that goal would be a tall order from the standpoint of both industrial design as well as component manufacture and assembly. |
